SNOW Day!

We packed a lot of learning and a WHOLE lot of fun into this week.
On Monday we read the book The Crayon Box that Talked, it's a great story about a box of crayons who don't like each other and a little girl over hears them talking badly about one another. She buys the box of crayons and takes them home. When she begins drawing a picture with all the colors, the crayons see how good they are together and decide that they do like each other after all. Here's a link to the story:

It's really a wonderful story about diversity and friendship. The kids used crayons to color on a paper cutout of a crayon, I asked them to draw one of the pictures they liked from the book or to draw something that makes them happy. We will hang the crayons up on the wall outside our classroom along with a printout of the story.
The dragonfly class worked on the letter Tt and reviewed our shapes and colors.

On Tuesday we talked about ground hog day. The caterpillar class made cute little ground hogs using a potato dipped in brown paint to stamp his body coming out of the grass. They used their pinkie fingers dipped in the paint to make the ears and then glued googly eyes onto the face. It was really messy and fun! The butterflies used the potatoes to stamp the bodies of the ground hog and then glued a groundhogs head onto the body. They were so funny, they kept saying, mine is Simon, mine is Alvin... they thought we were making chipmunks. :-) (honestly - the little head/face did look like a chipmunk) Too cute!
On Wednesday the dragonfly class made cute little ground hog puppets. We did a review of the letters Ll Ii and Tt. And worked on the numbers 1 & 2.

Thursday was gym day! That caterpillar class is so funny - they are such creatures of habit. We got out the soccer balls and nets and at first they said "no we want to big balls" but Sedeane and I convinced them that soccer is really fun and showed them how to score goals. A few kiddos still rolled around on the balls like they were the big fit balls - funny munchkins! We had fun kicking and throwing the balls and getting them into the nets. The butterfly class was mixed - half the kids played soccer and half the kids ran back and forth, back and forth. Then is seemed like it would switch, the soccer playing kids would start running back and forth and the other kids would play soccer - this was not directed - just the natural flow. As much as I love playing with the kids, it is sometimes so interesting to sit back and just observe - they never cease to amaze me! The butterfly class also had time to decorate a crayon after we read The Crayon Box that Talked - look for those on the wall next week.

Friday - SNOW Day! PSD was off, but we were not. We had a great turn out for this blustery day - thanks to all who ventured out! My two boys came with me and really enjoyed meeting all the little cuties I'm always talking about. The other Miss Lisa was there today and brought us some chocolate milk and mini marshmallows. We heated it up in the microwave and enjoyed a little treat while we practiced the letter Oo. Thanks Miss Lisa! Miss Sedeane brought her Wii and her Michael Jackson Experience game - we pulled the huge TV out into the gym and hooked it up. We had so much fun dancing to Thriller, once as Michael and once as the zombies (which by the way is really hard!). We also danced to Beat it! I was sweating by the time we were done - that is a work out!

Enjoy the snow! Stay warm and safe!
