Thank you everybody for helping to make our Halloween Celebration a success! I hope you all had as much fun as I did! Please email me any pictures - of course I left my camera at home....
This week was another busy one. On Monday we made black cats using the paper plates we painted last Wednesday. Everybody got 2 yellow eyes, a pink nose, 2 black ears and 2 white whiskers, the placement was up to them. I realize that some of them came home not quite looking like a cat... It's always really fun for me to watch the creative process and see where the kiddos take it. There are a few kids who ask "where do I put the eyes" or "where do the eyes go?" and I have to really make myself answer "wherever you think they should go" or "you tell me", because my instinct is to show them where to put the eyes. For the most part, they tend to glue the things where they want to glue them, regardless of what anybody tells them or shows them. I love their creativity! The pre-k class did some fun math using candy corn. It's a fun way to teach addition and subtraction. Of course, they don't need to know these concepts yet, but that makes it even more fun, becuase they are learning something without even realizing what it is.
On Wednesday we read Stella Luna (one of my favorites) in the morning class and the pre-k class. It's a little long for the 2 year olds, so we read Bat Jamboree, in the middle class. Then the kids painted with Karo Syrup and glitter to make the night sky. Then, they stuck a bat, a moon and a bug onto the 'glue'. In the story Stella Luna, she falls into a birds nest after she and her mom are attacked by and owl. She lives like the birds and is forced to eat bugs rather than the fruit she is used to. It's a really sweet story and the kids were happy when she was re-united with her mom at the end. (And never had to eat another bug for as long as she lived)
The pre-k class practiced handwriting by tracing squares. They also practiced writing their names on a get well card for Caitlin's Daddy. They are such little sweeties - so concerned for their classmates!
Friday was the fun Halloween celebration! I had so much fun chatting with all the parents and sharing with you what we do on a daily basis at Funtime. I am so glad I got to see all your little cuties in their costumes, they have been telling me about them for the last month or so! Thanks again for all your help and fabulous donations - what a fun day!
Have a great weekend and be safe when you are out trick or treating!
